The View!

With all the pictures of our house torn apart, we thought you should know why we bought this little cottage on Pearl Street...the view of Lake Washington, Seward Park, and the Cascades in the distance.

Before Todd's dad came, we had to remove the asbestos from the ceilings. What fun! Since fine digital camera equipment and hazardous airborne substances aren't the best match, this is our only picture of Todd's 6.5 hour ordeal...

Here's Todd's dad, Wayne installing our new service on the east side of the house.

The basement stripped down swept up, and ready for wiring.

Tricia and Wayne inspect the rotten boards below the old door to the deck. This door will soon be blocked off so we have more space in our kitchen.

Todd returns from the fantastic world of the attic where he did the dirty work....

Father and son after four days of successful wiring! Note the new electrical in the background.

Wayne's truck came over from Spokane, loaded with all sorts of materials from Electrical Service Products. Thanks Dad!

House Deconstruction

Tricia gets grubby as she tears into the bathroom wall, removing the old 1942 plaster. Here's Trish in our dumpster!... Tricia's parents are no strangers to remodeling old houses. Here's Kathy wielding the shovel. Father and daughter.

Uncle Carl made a pit stop after Uncle Bill's retirement party to tear down our walls...

Diana came by as well with tools, energy, and experience.

Mason dances with the shovel...

And, yes, Todd did some work, too.

After week #2, the walls were down and the bones of our new home revealed. Time for some reconstructive surgery.

The Way We Bought It

In lieu of pictures of all the junk left for us in the house, here is a photo of the 20-yard dumpster we filled with it all.

The former living room, soon to be a dining room, with the view of Lake Washington and Seward Park. That's Maggie getting comfortable on the carpet (soon to be hardwood floors!).

The kitchen (after we emptied the fridge and cupboards of rotten food).

Also, there's the door to the outside deck, which will soon be closed up and a new door added from the hallway.

Here's the back bedroom in all its blue-walled, popcorn-ceilinged glory. Note the broken window and covered up heat vent!

Here's the old garage which became the "rec room", and will soon be our studio/laundry/study room.

Our bathroom - soon to be emptied of all its worldly possessions, rearranged, replumbed, and renewed with our vision.

A Little House on Pearl Street

On March 25, 2008 Tricia and I became home owners!
Join us as we embark on the journey to turn this 880 square foot "fixer-upper" into our first home. We'll be posting photos of our house project as we go along.
